The Muffled Engine
Why did Ruben take off on a sort of aimless bicycle ride? What kind of mood was he in during this time that might explain his motivation?
I think he went took the ride because he was feeling like he was lockeed up in his small town, with no way out. I think he was feeling angry because of this... I also think he was feeling a little bit discouraged because of what he said about his father not even bothing to try to turn him into something he's just not anymore... Maybe some adventurousness mixed in there...
Nice thinking. I also think that he went out because he was feeling, like, too confined in this small town. And he couldn't escape, easily... I think that there was a bit of anger in his mood, maybe some... madness. I got this from a book and I love it... I don't think he was standing in line at that time when God passed out the smiles! :)
I think that he is angry and upset about the way his parents are treating him, so he wanted get away from everything, and the only way to do so, was ride his bike far out into the country.
I think he went. On the ride because he was mad at most of the people in town and he didn't like that his own father and his best friend were ignoring him. I also think it was because his feelings were kind of messed up and he was tired of his dad and Jeddy ignoring him.

ReplyDeleteI think he was in a confused mood like he had absolutely no idea what to do at this point.
ReplyDeleteI like the way you each are thinking and making inferences about this part of the story, almost as if you are inside Ruben's mind.

ReplyDeleteThis is a question to everyone: Do you guys think that Jeddy's dad is MAKING Jeddy ignore Ruben?
