The Job at Brown's

This chapter might have been a bit confusing to you.  Let's make sure you're clear before you read on.  What is your interpretation of what happened at Brown's Cove and why Mr. Riley was arrested and taken away while the rest of the people arrested were let go by the police?  What questions do you have that we can help you to answer?

  1. I think what happened is that the police knew what was supposed to happen that night and went there to try to stop it. I thinkk Mr. Riley was taken away because as Tino said, someone is trying to take him down because he's in the big business. I think that is also why all of the other people were let go because the police didn't really want anything to do with them.

  2. I think what happened was that Mr.Riley paid Charlie Pope and the police to not come and stop the rum running operation and the police came anyway because they might have gotten paid to arrest him.

  3. I agree, Matt. I think it had something to do with Mr. Riley not wanting the police to come so he paid Charlie Pope to not come to stop it.

  4. I think that Mr.Riley had paid the Feds so they wouldn't arrest him, but someone else paid the Feds to arrest Mr.Riley.

  5. I think Mr. Riley had a bad record so they too him and let everyone else go or I think the police don't have a good relationship from the past or something like that.
