Black Duck
What inferences, connections, or speculation did you take away from this chapter? What does it lead you to believe or wonder?
It makes me think who else could be involved with illegal alchohol? It really could be anyone, because Ruben probobly saw people he trusted, people he thought were followers of the law. It also makes me wonder if anyone saw him, or noticed him hiding in the field. It also makes me think back to the first interveiw, when David asked if behind Mr. Rileys store, there was illegal alchohol...
I'm wondering if Ruben will ever tell anyone about the Black Duck. I mean, a lot of people don't know about it and all, and people might not believe him because no one has seen the Black Duck in a long time... but, if I were Ruben, I would feel really akward, #1, by seeing the Black Duck and not knowing what the heck is going on, and #2, I would feel uncomfortable by keeping it inside and not tell anyone. I'm sure people would want to know about this... because I sure would!
It kind of makes me think that the police aren't that concerned about illegal alcohol in the town but in the bigger citys that the police are much more careful. I think Mr. Riley is the person who tells the Black Duck when and where to bring it.
I am not really sure. But I do think that Ruben is thinking of something to do but not anything like "tell on them" because Ruben does think it is fascinating. I kind of want him to get up the courage to go down on the beach and learn how they never get caught and other stuff like that. Also if I were Ruben I would ALWAYS keep this to myself.

ReplyDeleteGreat thinking. What do you think Mr. Riley was doing there?

ReplyDeleteI think that the police are in on the smuggling, but pretend not to be, and that is why they are not concerned about the body
